Some of my work using CS for generative art

I love making generative art using code -- the idea that something beautiful can emerge from a few lines of math. Here are some examples.

Morphogenesis -- a reaction-diffusion system inspired by Alan Turing's 1952 paper on biological pattern formation. Thousands of particles trace paths through layered noise fields, producing emergent organic structures that echo coral growth, neural branching, and fluid dynamics.

Cosmic Nebula -- layered noise fields with radial symmetry produce structures reminiscent of stellar nurseries. Particles orbit and drift through gravitational-like attractors, painting trails of light.

Evolutionary Creatures -- procedurally generated organisms using evolutionary algorithms. Each creature evolves unique traits through simulated natural selection, mutation, and crossover.

Strange Attractor -- a visualization of the Lorenz system, the chaotic dynamical system that gave rise to the "butterfly effect." Three coupled differential equations produce an endlessly non-repeating trajectory through phase space.

Voronoi Tessellation -- a living Voronoi diagram where seed points drift through space, continuously re-partitioning the plane into organic cellular structures. Found in nature from giraffe patterns to soap bubbles to cell biology.

Interference Patterns -- inspired by quantum wave-particle duality. Multiple point sources emit circular wavefronts that interfere constructively and destructively, creating mesmerizing moiré patterns that shift and evolve over time.

I created tools for you to generate art!

About

Hi, I'm Afreen -- a first-generation international student from India with a relentless curiosity for computer science, AI/ML, and creative technology. I hold an MS in Computer Science with a minor in Engineering Management from Northwestern University, studied Design Innovation at MIT, and earned my BS in Computer Science from Pune University, where I graduated top of my class.

I'm currently a Senior Product Manager, Autonomy Workflows & Visualization at Aurora, a self-driving vehicle technology company. Previously, I was Technical Product Manager - User Experience at Verkada, leading product across their cloud-connected physical security platform. I founded a non-profit building tech-assisted training programs for women and under-resourced communities, serve as an IEEE peer reviewer in computing and engineering, and was recognized with the Peter and Adrienne Barris Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award at Northwestern CS.

I love making generative art with code, painting on canvas, and experimenting with pottery and ceramics. I enjoy traveling to offbeat destinations, camping, occasionally surfing, and I always have a thick book going. I'm endlessly fascinated by the intersection of art and algorithms -- the idea that something beautiful can emerge from a few lines of math.
